Photo for marriage biodata
The photo is the first thing every family looks at. Here is how to choose, take and crop one that looks natural on a phone and sharp on paper.

What makes a good biodata photo
- Recent: taken in the last six months, and looking like you do today.
- Soft daylight from a window or outdoors in the shade. Avoid harsh overhead light and flash.
- A plain or softly blurred background: a wall, curtains or greenery.
- Face clearly visible, eyes to the camera, a natural smile.
- Chest-up or waist-up framing, taken by someone else at eye level rather than a selfie.
- No sunglasses, heavy filters, group photos or cropped-out friends.
What to wear and how to pose
Traditional wear (a saree, salwar suit or kurta) and smart formal wear both work; choose what you’d wear to meet the family. Solid colours photograph better than busy prints.
- For boys: stand straight with shoulders relaxed, turned slightly to one side, in a kurta or a shirt with or without a blazer.
- For girls: a gentle three-quarter turn towards the camera, hands relaxed, with light jewellery and natural make-up.
- For both: stand near a window, keep your hair as you usually wear it, and take several shots to choose from.
Cropping and size
Upload the original from your camera, not a copy forwarded on WhatsApp, as forwarding compresses it. In our editor you crop to a 3 : 4 portrait with zoom and rotation, and each design sets it in its own frame: a rectangle, rounded corners, a circle or an arch. A photo about 1,000 pixels tall or more stays sharp in the print-quality PDF.
Cropping happens on your device; the photo is never uploaded. Choose a design that shows the photo the way you like: Heritage leads with a large circular portrait, Slate gives it a tall sidebar and Jharokha sets it in an arched window. Questions
Is a photo compulsory in a marriage biodata?+
No, but most families expect one. If you leave it out, the header closes up around your name; you can add a photo later and download again.
Which background is best for a biodata photo?+
A plain light wall, curtains or soft greenery. Busy rooms, mirrors and crowds pull attention away from your face.
Can I use a full-length photo?+
Use a chest-up or waist-up photo for the biodata itself; the frame is small and a full-length photo makes your face tiny. Share full-length photos separately if a family asks.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?+
No. The photo is cropped and stored only in your browser on this device, and the PDF is made on your device too.
Is it free?+
Yes. The Free template has unlimited PDF downloads, no watermark and no sign-up. Premium designs are a one-time ₹49, ₹79 or ₹99, and you can preview every one with your own details before paying.
